Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week
How to build your sci-fi collection without breaking the bank, with your host… Steven Ellis
Hello there, come on in and have a seat… It’s time for the SFX Friday bargain round up. This week we have once again scoured the internet and wandered the shops to bring you ideas to help get rid of the disposable income that’s burning a hole in your pocket.
First Zavvi has a few offers; they have 3 DVDs for £10 including such titles as The Book of Eli, Arachnophobia and Species among others. Zavvi also has a 2 Blu-rays for £10 and 3 Blu-rays for £18 offer too. Definitely worth a click through, you never know what you might find.
A load of old puppets next with a selection of Gerry Anderson shows. First we have the complete Captain Scarlet on DVD for £14.99 . Thunderbirds is also available for the same £14.99 price tag and finally we have the psychedelic Joe 90 on DVD for just £10.97 .
Some puppets of a slightly different flavour with Frank Oz and Jim Henson’s 80s dark fairy tale The Dark Crystal available on DVD for £5.99 .
With Contagion released on DVD and Blu-ray this week for £9.99 , we thought we’d suggest an older, cheaper virus related film. Outbreak can be yours on DVD for just £2.99 . It has Dustin Hoffman and a very cute monkey in it.
A couple of TV boxed sets, starting with True Blood seasons 1-3 on DVD for £33.97 or on Blu-ray for £43.97 .
Next we have the Doctor Who series 1-4 Collection on DVD . That’s all of Eccleston and most of Tennant for £38.97 , not bad at all.

Dinosaur and Anomaly action next with this Primeval series 1-3 boxed set on DVD for £14.97 . And for the completists out there you can also pick up Primeval series 4 and series 5 on DVD for just £6.99 each too.
Finally from TV land we have animated fun with Bender and Fry in this bumper Futurama seasons 1-4 DVD boxed set for just £26.97 .
To the shops… Asda this week has Immortals for £10 , Contagion also for £10 and The Three Musketeers for £11 . The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Prince of Persia are available for £5 each and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Flubber and Hancock are all for £3 . We also spotted Paranormal Activity one and two for £5 each. Season one of Merlin on DVD was spied for £10 .
On the Blu-ray front we saw The Green Mile and The Lost Boys for £8 each. And individual parts of both the Back to the Future Trilogy and the first three Twilight films were £9 each.
Tesco this week has loads of DVDs for a fiver . We clapped eyes upon Quarantine 2, 300, I am Legend, The Reaping, Blade, Legion and Inception for £5 each. We also found Jennifer’s Body, Mad Max, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Piranha 3D and The Exorcist again all for £5 . Finally, The Invasion, Super and Watchmen are just £3 each. No cheap Blu-rays at all this week though.
Last of all in this week’s supermarket sweep we have Morrisons; they have Rise of the Planet of the Apes for £8 , I am Legend, Priest, Black Death and Hancock for £5 each. We saw that both The Terminator and Terminator 2 Judgement Day are just £3 each. The Keanu Reeves The Day the Earth Stood Still remake was seen for £4 , although Amazon have the original for £3.89 , which is much better. Finally, from Morrisons we discovered season one of Game of Thrones , on DVD for £22.99 and on Blu-ray for £29.99 . These prices are the cheapest we’ve seen in either format anywhere this week.
From the forum this week Wee Little Puppet Man found Source Code, Sucker Punch and Attack the Block going for £5 each in Morrisons. Puppet Man also spotted some Pixar films such as Toy Story 3 and Up going for £7 , which they reckon is pretty cheap for Pixar films.
Rhian bought the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer from Play for £40 but by the time she told us it’d already gone up to £50 , which still isn’t a bad price. We think maybe she was just rubbing it in.
Silverfox67 found this An American Werewolf In London 100th Anniversary Steelbook on Blu-ray. It’s not out till May but you can pre-order it here for just £9.99 . Sliverfox also spotted a Pan’s Labyrinth 2 disc DVD set for £4.99 and the same film on a Special Edition Blu-ray for £6.79 . Finally from Mr Fox we have the Alien Quadrilogy boxed set on Blu-ray for an amazing £13.95 .
As ever we want your bargain finds too, so if you find anything we’ve brought you this week cheaper somewhere else please mention it in the comments section below. Alternatively, if you find any bargains over the coming week you can share them over on our forum. This thread is for movie bargains and this one is for TV bargains and finally this thread is for any random bargain you might find.
