Schilling for EverQuest
Red Sox pitcher becomes an EQII bad guy for charity
EverQuest II fans know that Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling proudly counts himself among their ranks - his love for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game seemingly knows no bounds. Schilling will take the ultimate leap as a fan and actually enter the game as an villainous character in June. His appearance in the game is part of a charity event to raise money for ALS, the degenerative nerve affliction commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
From June 5 through June 7, EQII players will be encouraged to log on to www.battleals.com and register to fight Schilling's in-game character, who wields - what else? - wooden clubs that look suspiciously like medieval baseball bats. Every time a player beats the virtual doppelganger in combat, Sony Online Entertainment will donate five bucks to the ALS Association, with a maximum of $10,000. After the special event ends, Schilling's character will remain in the game as an enemy in a high-level quest; his evil online character is cleverly named... Curt Schilling.
