Say goodbye to one of 3DS' two launch models *sniff*
Aqua Blue, we'll never forget you
Remember 3DS' launch? Remember how you could buy boring old Cosmos Black or gorgeous, sparkly, so-beautiful-it-hurts Aqua Blue? So do we. We love Aqua Blue. So imagine our horror upon learning today that Nintendo is CEASING PRODUCTION OF IT. That's right. Turns out 'Cobalt Blue' is better. Well, we'll be the judge of that, thank you. Ready to compare?

It's only Nintendo's official Japanese site that's confirmed Aqua Blue's manufacture as ceasing, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in the rest of the world too. The planet isn't big enough for two blue-hued 3DS models. Neither can live while the other survives. Rumour has it the pair had a somewhat anticlimactic showdown where Aqua Blue just sort of stopped and blew away like ashes before any kind of finishing blow could be dealt. Cobalt Blue then snapped Aqua Blue's stylus in half and threw it off the causeway, much to the disappointment of Ron Weasley.

So Flare Red, Misty Pink, Ice White and Cosmos Black are now the active members of the 3DS family, in Japan at least. What does it mean? Your Aqua Blue 3DS might one day become something of a collector's item. And people will look back and say 'remember when 3DS launched and it only had one circle pad built in?' And their friends will say 'yeah, it was really sparkly back then too. They don't make 'em like that any more. Let's all go to eBay and buy Aqua Blue 3DS units for hundreds of pounds'. And they will, and they'll love them. Like Cundy loves his.
