Stand up comedian and actress Sarah Silverman has built a fan base in the US by combining an onstage persona as prickly as Larry David's (only not as sympathetic) with songs as goofy as Flight of The Concords' (only not as funny). Jesus Is Magic, her first feature, is really a stand-up concert interspersed with a few sketches. If you're a fan you'll have heard the material before, as it rarely veers far from her three favourite topics: Jewishness, sex and racism. She's definitely got a few good gags ("I was raped by a doctor...which is so bittersweet for a Jewish girl"), but they're spread pretty thinly among the gratuitous showboating. By the end you'll feel like a bored parent trapped in the front row of the school play.
