Sam Fisher gets a personality
Part two of our weeklong exclusive Splinter Cell Conviction preview
We already know the series will be taking a moreopen approach to character interaction, with crowd and individual behavior affected by how you behave around different people. But with Sam's status now firmly set to "fugitive," his trademark gear and essential intel is going to be harder to come by.
Mary says "He will have to create contacts, hence having some social relationships. Those contacts will be able to provide him with different things, ranging from pure intelligence to black market gadgets, or more simply extraction vehicles, etc. What was given must now be earned."
So Sam's changed - perhaps forever. But he's also changed physically too (see above). He looks very different to us but, according to Mary, the team hasn't actually changed the character model very much. Just enough for that extra emotion to be expressed. "We wanted to move Same from military character to human being," she said. "We had to shy away from the ice cold face in order to provide a greater palette of emotions.
"I believe you can already see that in the released visuals of Sam - a hint of melancholy mixed with his determination... definitely how we are seeing Sam in Conviction!" Let's just hope that determination is still the dominant emotion, eh?
