Sackboy finds success at last, while Mass Effect 2 isn't massively effective

LittleBigPlanet didn't set the world alight when it was released in 2008. Sure, it received rave reviews and got to the top of the PS3 charts, but the PS3 install base wasn't so great at the time so it never really got the attention it deserved. Sony then claimed it would be a slow burner.Media Molecule stated that there would not be a sequel as it wasn't that kind of game. Turns out a sequel was exactly what Sackboy needed to hit the big time - and now it's here,he has.

Above: Yay! It's all flowers and rainbows now. And well-deserved too if our10/10 reviewis anything to go by

In the UKIE All-Format Chart for Week 3 of 2011, Sackboy reigns supreme, displacing Call of Duty Black Ops from the top spot and sitting pretty as the top selling game across all formats (erm... not counting download sales but those charts are never included). LittleBigPlanet 2 is a success - especially compared to PS3's other latest big-hitter, Mass Effect 2, which sits at 7 this week - and that's including residual 360 sales.

But what caused the change for Sackboy? Word of mouth from long-time PS3 owners passing on the message to newbies? Or maybe the fact that Sony has actually been advertising the game's features rather than abstract suggestionsof its content this time round?

That said, I do still remember the one with 'he got hit by a caaa' from the first time round:

Class.

Here's the full Top 20 for the UK charts, so you can see how strong the competition was:

1) LittleBigPlanet 2
2) Call of Duty: Black Ops
3) Just Dance 2
4) FIFA 11
5) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
6) Wii Fit Plus
7) Mass Effect 2
8) Kinect Sports
9) Gran Turismo 5
10) Need For Speed Hot Pursuit

Have you bought the game? Are you loving it? Let us know what you think in the comments.
