Rupert Wyatt heading up four-name shortlist to direct Star Trek 3?
With Roberto Orci no longer attached to direct Star Trek 3, Paramount is on the hunt for a new helmer, with the studio having reportedly drawn up a four-name shortlist.
According to Deadline, Rupert Wyatt is Paramount’s preferred option, with the report claiming that the Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director has already met with the studio.
However, Wyatt apparently faces competition from Morten Tyldum, Daniel Espinosa and Justin Lin, all of whom are thought to be under consideration.
Duncan Jones had also been thought to be on the shortlist, only for the director to rule himself out on Twitter, explaining that he “absolutely MUST make my own thing next, or I’ll die of old age!”
Whoever gets the gig, Paramount will be keen to get production up and running ASAP, with the clock ticking down to the mooted 2016 release date when the franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
