Roy Scheider RIP
Jaws star dead at 75
Sad news today as Oscar nominee, French Connection star and legendary shark-fighter Roy Scheider has died.
After launching his career on television, he graduated to film with B-movie The Curse Of The Living Corpse. Several small films followed until he caught a big break in Klute alongside Jane Fonda, and garnered an Oscar nod starring with Gene Hackman in The French Connection.
He also cropped up in the likes of Marathon Man and The Sorcerer, but he’ll be forever remembered as police chief Martin Brody in Jaws. He reprised the role (under protest) in Jaws II. He managed to grab some glory back with musical All That Jazz in 1979.
Besides Jaws, genre movie fans know him as the pilot of Blue Thunder and on TV as the captain of his Jaws helmer Steve Spielberg’s show SeaQuest DSV.
Variety has his full obit . He was 75.
