Roger Moore

VITAL STATS
DOB: 14 October 1927
Height: 6ft 1”
Eyes: Blue
Age When Cleared For Duty: 45

CASES
Live And Let Die (1973)
The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Moonraker (1979)
For Your Eyes Only (1981)
Octopussy (1983)
A View To A Kill (1985)

DISTINGUISHING FEATURE
Despite silliness and a penchant for safari suits, Moore’s 007 was a slick and increasingly world-weary adventurer.

FAVOURITE REQUISITIONS FROM Q
● Magnetic watch with built-in buzzsaw
● Fake third nipple
● Acid-filled fountain pen

VEHICLES
Lotus Esprit with the ability to transform into a submarine (The Spy Who Loved Me) – a later model has an explosive anti-theft device (For Your Eyes Only). Submarine disguised as a crocodile (Octopussy).

BOND GIRLS: 17
Favourite Most are a bit vapid but The Spy Who Loved Me’s Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) isn’t a woman to cross lightly.

CRIMINAL MASTERMINDS
A mixed bag, from Live And Let Die’s Kananga (Yaphet Kotto) and The Man With The Golden Gun’s Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) to wannabe world rulers like The Spy Who Loved Me’s Stromberg (Curt Jurgens) and Moonraker’s Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale).

HENCHMEN
Freaks aplenty. Scaramanga’s dwarfish helper Nick Nack and Kananga’s hook-handed Tee hee deserve a mention, but the metal-choppered king has to be Jaws – who gets to have two bites at Bond (The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker).

IN ACTION
The Man With The Golden Gun’s corkscrew car jump over a river is the most complex, but The Spy Who Loved Me’s opening ski-jump off a cliff, a Union Jack parachute wafting James to safety, is the most stunning.

00 ASSESSMENT: 51 CONFIRMED KILLS
Favourites Kicking a car with a man trapped in it off a cliff (“He had no head for heights” – For Your Eyes Only); exploding Kananga with a compressed air pellet (“He always did have an inflated opinion of himself” – Live And Let Die).

BEFORE BOND
Played Bond in a sketch on Millicent Martin’s TV show in 1964.

AFTER BOND
Succeeded Audrey Hepburn as UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

SURVEILLANCE TRANSCRIPT
Bond “Who would pay $1 million to have me killed?”
M “Jealous husbands. Outraged chefs... The list is endless!” (The Man With The Golden Gun)
