A new trailer has arrived online for The Judge , in which Robert Downey Jr.’s hotshot lawyer returns to his home town for his mother’s funeral, only to find his father (Robert Duvall) accused of her murder.
The father and son are already estranged, and Duvall seems less than impressed by his son’s attempts to defend him, amplifying the tension between the pair still further.
However, Downey is convinced that while his father may be pompous, unyielding, and puffed up on his own sense of self-importance, a murderer he is not…

We could do without the booming, “uplifting†soundtrack, but this one looks as thought it’s going to be about the performances, with Downey and Duvall looking on particularly fine form.
Directed by David Dobkin and co-starring Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio and Billy Bob Thornton, The Judge will open in the UK on 17 October 2014.
