Robert Downey Jr. confirms Iron Man 4 is in the works
UPDATE: He says there's no plan for Iron Man 4, but says there's 'plenty of fun stuff to happen'
Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed that Iron Man 4 is currently in the Marvel pipeline, with Ellen DeGeneres pressing him for a definitive answer during a filmed interview.
“I know there’s going to be more Marvel movies, and they have big ideas of how to do it best,” said Downey Jr., when the host raised the question. “We’re in the middle of negotiations, blah blah blah.”
However, DeGeneres wouldn’t accept that as an answer, and when pressed as to whether that translated as a simple “yes”, Downey Jr. relented, replying, “okay, yes.”
Exciting news, although it sounds as though the rumoured cameo in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. might not be so likely, with Downey Jr. addressing the suggestion during a reddit AMA.
“Nothing is impossible,” he said of a potential cameo, “but there might be a fair amount of red tape involved in something like that. I love Clark Gregg, and am pleased the show is doing so well.”
UPDATE: Talking to David Letterman, RDJ clarified: “There’s no plans for an Iron Man 4 . There’s no script for Iron Man 4 , but they do have a plan and I think they’re gonna announce it. You know, [Marvel's] very secretive about it.” With Letterman pursuing a firm answer the Iron Man 4 angle, Downey Jr. responded, “just between us, no, but I’m gonna do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”
Downey’s next Marvel appearance will be in Avengers: Age Of Ultron , which will open the UK on 24 April 2015.
