Well here's an unlikely match of director and subject matter! According to Deadline, Rob Zombie is set to branch out beyond his usual horror remit to direct a new Groucho Marx biopic focusing on the final years in the life of the legendary comic.
Adapted from Steve Stoliar's memoir Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho's House, the new film will chronicle Groucho's twilight years from the perspective of his personal secretary and archivist. During his time in the role, Stoliar had a first-hand view of the family dynamic between the Marx brothers, while also dealing with Erin Fleming, Groucho's companion and general custodian.
“I have been a huge Groucho Marx fan ever since I was a child and have read countless book on the comic legend, but after reading the book Raised Eyebrows, a totally new perspective on Groucho’s life emerged,” says Zombie. “I immediately saw this project as Groucho’s Sunset Boulevard and knew I had to bring it to the big screen. It is a sad, funny and very dark tale of a one of Hollywood’s greatest stars final years.” No release date has been confirmed at this stage.
