Resident Evil 7's new trailer reveals more found footage from its plantation of horrors
So we don't know what the dummy finger in the Beginning Hour demo means just yet but here's another terrifying look into the horrors that await in Resident Evil 7. While this apparently isn't someone we'll be playing as in the full game, the above found footage tape of someone called Mia as she tries to escape the plantation is suitably tense. The creaks and sounds of the house are ultra claustrophobic and there's a serious sense of dread in just three minutes. And don't worry about the graphical fuzziness, that's apparently on purpose to add some found footage-osity.
When it comes to details on characters, we've got a little more info. The house - that we've already explored in the demo - is a plantation in Dulvey in Louisiana. The residents, Jack and Marguerite Baker, haven't been seen for a while and the Marguerite that's showing up in this tape, doesn't look exactly like she's keen on visitors.
Gameplay wise, we don't know much more about January's release but Capcom has revealed that we will be "returning to the series roots" with exploration, puzzles, and a realistic and tense atmosphere. It's also revealed that the classic inventory system will be back with limited space so we're going to have to be careful what we choose. Bring on those green herbs.
Combining inventory management with the kind of gameplay that we've already seen so far, this is going to be a stressful experience. It will also be interesting to see how this can stretch over a full game. Intensity like this is better in shorter bursts so I'm looking forward to seeing how Resi 7 deals with the problem.
Resident Evil 7 is out on January 24 on PS4, Xbox One and PC, with an exclusive full virtual reality version for PlayStation VR.
