Report: EA lays off up to 10 percent of employees
Publisher confirms some extent of workforce reductions
Electronic Arts may have laid off up to 10 percent of its worldwide workforce, if sources who spoke to Kotaku are accurate. The publisher saw the terminations as significant enough to merit a brief news update, but did not comment on their extent:
"In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile. This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees--those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends. These are hard but essential changes as we focus on delivering great games and showing players around the world why to spend their time with us."
The company's employees numbered about 9,000 last year, Kotaku reports. This news follows rounds of layoffs at the publisher's Montreal and Gallaway, Ireland offices, and the rumored shuttering of its Partners external publishing label.
EA's longtime CEO John Riccitiello left the company last month.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
