When it comes to remakes, nothing is sacred. Not even, it seems, a genre-defining action movie from one of the masters of action cinema.
John Woo’s 1989 film The Killer proved a massive coup for the director, earning both him and star Chow Yun-Fat much acclaim, and basically kick-starting both of their careers.
An English-speaking remake has been on the backburner for a couple of years now. And it's just been given a shot in the arm with the casting of The Good, The Bad, The Weird star Jung Woo-Sung.
Woo-Sung will play the film’s lead, an assassin called Ah Jong who accidentally injures a girl and attempts to look after her.
South Korean director John H. Lee is still at the helm - and planning to make his version of The Killer in 3D. And get this – Woo himself is producing the film. If you can’t beat them, eh?
“While all my films are special to me, The Killer is truly one of my favourites,” says Woo.
“We are thrilled to reinvent it as an English-language film and know it’s in capable hands by the incredible visual style and tender emotion John H. Lee brings to all his films.”
