Quantum Break distorts time, turns 2015 release window into 2016

Quantum Break, the time-distorting shooter from the creators of Max Payne and Alan Wake, is winding back the clock by at least a few months. Remedy Entertainment revealed on Thursday that the Xbox One exclusive is now set for 2016, closing the window on its previously planned 2015 release.

Quantum Break stars a man who can mysteriously manipulate the time distortions which have begun causing chaos around the world (leading to all kinds of slow-motion gunfights and other temporal trickery), while an included live-action counterpart series explores the inner workings of the evil corporation that is hunting him down. In other words, just the sort of weirdness wrapped around a familiar shooter core that you'd expect from a Remedy production.

Microsoft Studios publishing head Shannon Loftis said the delay would expand Xbox One's portfolio beyond 2015 (which already includes Halo 5: Guardians, timed exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Fable Legends) and give Quantum Break more space to flourish next year.

Remedy creative director Sam Lake added that the delay would allow the studio to "polish and fine tune the game to create the kind of standout entertainment experience [fans have] come to expect from us."

Quantum Break was originally announced alongside Xbox One in May 2013, though Remedy fans are used to a delay or two at this point - Alan Wake was first announced in 2005 and didn't hit Xbox 360 until 2010.
