Book publisher Tor has announced that fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has been personally selected by Robert Jordan’s widow to complete the final book in her late husband's Wheel of Time series.
Jordan died on 15 September of amyloidosis, a rare blood disease, leaving A Memory of Light, the 12th Wheel of Time novel, incomplete. Now Harriet Popham Rigney, Jordan's widow and editor, has chosen Sanderson to finish the book, which will be written based on notes and scenes left by Jordan. "He left copious notes and hours of audio recordings," Rigney said in a press release from Tor.
Sanderson, whose novels include Elantris, Mistborn, The Well of Ascension and Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians, says, “I'm both extremely excited and daunted by this opportunity. There is only one man who could have done this book the way it deserved to be written, and we lost him in September. However, I promise to do my very best to remain true to Mr Jordan's vision and produce the book we have all been waiting to read."
