Red Faction 3 "redefines destruction"
Details on the third game in the series emerge
Anyone familiar with the Red Faction series will know it as a first-person shooter. But for the new game, Red Faction: Guerrilla, it's gone third-person.
Official details on the third game in the series have now emerged, and THQ is boldly promising the game will redefine destruction and open-world gameplay.
It's set 50 years on from the first Red Faction game, and returns us to Mars where we're playing an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement and battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force.
Elaborating on the open-world aspect, THQ says we'll be carving our own path, "wreaking havoc across the vast, open-world environment of Mars, from the desolate mining outpost of Parker to the gleaming EDF capital city of Eos" during the fight.
It adds that environments will be fully destructible.
"Red Faction: Guerrilla expands the signature destruction elements of the series and pushes the boundaries of next-gen gaming on a massive, terra-formed Mars where gamers can literally tear down the enemy EDF presence brick by brick," Mike Kulas, president of Volition - the game's developer - says.

"With a new third- person perspective, a full cover system that allows for guerrilla style tactics and a diverse planet to explore we're excited to revitalize the gripping world of Red Faction for high-definition platforms."
A number of multiplayer modes are based around destruction gameplay, which we assume means blowing up the opposition's HQ and the like.
Red Faction: Guerrilla's in development for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and is due out in THQ's fiscal 2009 - April '08 to March '09
