Ready Player One, the film adaptation of the Ernest Cline novel of the same name, has been delayed to March 30, 2018. The movie is being directed by Steven Spielberg, and distributed by Warner Bros. The Hollywood Reporter claims Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn have been cast as "Art3mis" and Nolan Sorrento, respectively. But you can call them "plucky sidekick/girlfriend" and "bad guy" if you want.
Set in the year 2044, Ready Player One tells the tale of a teenage boy named Wade Watts, or "Parzival" as he's known in the fictional MMO, The Oasis. Watts is on the hunt for a treasure inside of The Oasis that will allow him to claim the billionaire game creator's real-life fortune, but of course he's not alone in his quest. There are plenty of other people who would love to get rich quick by playing a video game, and some are willing to kill.
Ready Player One was due to open on December 17, two days after the new release date for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Considering that Star Wars: The Force Awakens made more than $2 billion worldwide, I'm gonna say it's a good idea not to go up against the sequel.
