id Software's just-released iPhone 4 and iPad-compatible Rage HD, arguably the most ambitious iPhone game to date, shot up the sales charts during its first week, taking the third spotin thetop-selling games list.
Of course, it was overthrown by Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, the two massively popular games published by iPhone god Chillingo.
1. Angry Birds ($0.99)
2. Cut the Rope ($0.99)
3. RAGE HD ($1.99)
4. Fruit Ninja ($0.99)
5. Angry Birds Halloween ($0.99)
6. Bejeweled 2 + Blitz ($0.99)
7. Doodle Jump ($0.99)
8. Hotel Dash ($0.99)
9. Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles ($0.99)
10. Mad Chad ($0.99)
With the exception of Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles, the rest of the top-selling titles are, while perhaps good, not exactly"hardcore" in nature.Butit appears thatiPhone owners do want more, and even though Rage HD was $1 more than the typical 99-cent games, it attracted a lot of purchases.
We hopeid's success thusfar will encourage other big-name players in the industry to look more closely at the iPhone and iPad asworthy game platforms.
