Rachel Weisz talks Oz The Great And Powerful
“She’s really, really a bad person”
Rachel Weisz has been speaking about her character in Oz The Great And Powerful , describing The Wicked Witch Of The East as “really, really a bad person.”
“It was a fun idea to be playing someone who is really, really bad,” says Weisz. “I can’t think of any roles that I’ve had like that before... She’s really, really a bad person and she revels in being bad.”
Weisz will play Evanora, one of a trio of witches who inhabit the land of Oz and don’t take kindly to the sudden arrival of James Franco’s small-time conjurer, who finds himself hailed by the general populace as a full-blown wizard.
“It’s a Disney film," Weisz continues, “so I shouldn’t say she is ‘turned on’ by evil, but that’s what it is like... She enjoys it, like the meaner she is the more pleasure she gets.”
Directed by Sam Raimi and co-starring Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Zach Braff, Oz The Great And Powerful will open in the UK on 8 March 2013.
