R2-D2 confirmed for Star Wars: Episode VII
News follows on from recent teaser image
After last week’s teaser image of J.J. Abrams in the Star Wars workshop alongside a model of R2-D2, it was widely assumed that the little droid would be appearing in Episode VII .
Now Variety is reporting that R2-D2’s involvement has officially been confirmed by Disney and LucasFilm, promising plenty of droid-based fun in the new film.
Of course, it would have been a surprise to see such an iconic character omitted from Episode VII , but in lieu of any other casting news, it’s nice to have this confirmed!
We’re still waiting for concrete details of the film’s human casting, with the production having recently conducted an open audition process for several of its key roles.
Directed by Abrams, who is also co-writing the script with Lawrence Kasdan, Star Wars: Episode VII will open in the UK on 18 December 2015.
