Pure-PSP store under consideration

Dec 5, 2007

Sony has admitted that a store for PSP that can be accessed only via the handheld is under consideration.

"Clearly that's something we're thinking about," Eric Lempel, PlayStation director of network operations, tells MTV Multiplayer.

PSP owners were finally given access to the PlayStation Network with downloadable games, demos and videos in November, but currently it has to be done via PC. Users need to create a 'virtual wallet' in order to purchase items, which can be downloaded and transferred from the PC to the PSP using the PlayStation Network Downloader software and a USB connection.

Lempel says a PSP exclusive storeis something that should be possible considering the capabilities of the handheld. But: "It's just a matter of priorities and some technology that we need to make it all work right and make sure the content is delivered securely, just to protect some of our [intellectual properties].”

Lempel went on to reveal that UMD titles SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo and Twisted Metal: Head-On will hit the Store before the year is out and that backwards compatible PSone titles made available to PS3 owners will be available for PSP.

He also said that Sony is looking at the possibility of getting PSN PS3 releases such as flOw and Everyday Shooter on the PSP store for the handheld.
