PSP to get voice and video call features in UK

Sony Computer Entertainment has signed a deal with UK telecom service BT to bring wireless broadband functions to the PSP.

Over the course of four years the companies will develop features to enable handheld video calls, voice-over-IP and messaging on the PSP and BT "softphone" products. Additional features will be added later to allow calls to be made to PCs, landlines and mobiles.

The deal makes BT the lead wireless communications partner for SCE Europein 102 territories across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania. Initially the service will be introduced in the UK.

David Reeves, president of SCEE said of the deal: "It is very exciting for us to be partnering with BT on such a unique project. The opportunity to combine our market leading expertise with BT's knowledge in communications opens up many possibilities and we look forward to bringing many exciting communication functions to PSP fans."
