PSP ad mocking mobile games inspires a new mobile game

Remember Marcus? He was that kid who starred in a few PSP commercials as the one who could answer all the world's problems with his PSP. In one of those commercials, Marcus makes fun of a lame, fake iPhone game called "Lame Castle." Well, guess what the latest game coming to the iPhone is called?

That's right, abudding independent game studio is taking it up as a sort of "in your face" reaction to the PSP ad.

The idea comes from Bradley Johnson, who was the programming director at Crystal Dynamics, which most recently released the downloadable Lara Croft: Guardian of Light. In an interview he said his "buddy" noticed the ad and said they should use the fake game name as their first production.

"In the ad they're making fun of what looks like an iPhone. The guy in the ad is holding his phone with a game called Lame Castle on it. Once I saw that I wrote back and said, 'Yes, we're going to make that game'," said Johnson.

The entrepreneurial developer left Crystal Dynamics to be his own boss and create games on his own schedule. He said of his old job, "Overtime coupled with a 45 minute commute each way began to drain my soul. I'd come home unhappy and pissed off at the world. I was tired of feeling that way, and always wanted to make my own games so I left and started my own company."

The new company is called Be-Rad Entertainment, and Lame Castle will be its first game. There's no word on a release date, but Johnson says development has been a very smooth process. The project found art and sound talent within just a couple weeks, and now they are in "the final stages of polish."

Exactly what Lame Castle will entail is unclear at this point, but we give it one thumb up already for being extremely clever.

Take that, Marcus! Even lame people can turn the tables on you.
