PS3 April 15 update confirmed?
DTS announcement lets slip launch date of new firmware update
The new PS3 firmware version 2.30, which is expected to bring with it the lush new PS Store, looks to be making a global appearance on April 15.
Sony of Japan revealed earlier today that it would be releasing the new firmware, along with the new PS Store, in that territory on April 15, with SCEE expected to make a Euro announcement later today.
But it would appear that the firmware launch won't just be limited to Japan, as digital audio company DTS, confirms that its new Blu-ray surround sound trickery, DTS-HD Master Audio, will be available on PS3 via a firmware update on that same day.
"The new PS3 with DTS-HD Master Audio will be available by simply downloading the upcoming firmware upgrade on April 15th, 2008," reads the press release.
"DTS-HD Master Audio is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master at super high variable bit rates (up to 24.5 Mbps on Blu-ray Discs)," it adds, for the audiophiles of you.
"This bit stream is so fast and the transfer rate so high that it can deliver 7.1 audio channel, 96k/24-bit sound identical to the original studio master," which is a good thing, we understand.
