PS2 2K7

A lot of this year's best PS2 content is coming from Japan. There are a few noteworthy games that have been released or will be released soon across the Pacific, but since we haven't received any information yet on English versions, we can't say with certainty that they're on the way. Still, they're definitely worth noting.

Wild Arms V

The latest installment of Sony's fan-favorite RPG series has just hit Japan in time for its tenth anniversary. Wild Arms V whisks us back to the fantasy-meets-wild-west world we've come to love. The battle system (derived from WA4) boasts some new refinements and the trademark puzzle/action sequences are better than ever. There's no official word on an English release yet, but considering that all of the previous games hit US shores, it's not unlikely.

Shinjuku Wolf

Capcom's been giving us some unique titles this generation, and Shinjuku Wolf looks to follow in that trend. As detective Eiji Mikami, you're charged with solving the crimes and mysteries that have been popping up in Tokyo's famous Shinjuku district. The game's got a very interesting manga-style look to it and promises to offer action alongside puzzle-solving gameplay. No word on a US release yet, but Capcom isn't shy.

Soul Cradle

Another strategy-RPG from the house that Disgaea built? You betcha. Soul Cradle looks to be NIS's most ambitious effort yet. It's a marked departure from their typical formula, though - the dark, bleak world and narrative contrast sharply with the cute characters and lighthearted stories NIS usually delivers. The battle sequences in particular look fantastic, featuring flashy combination attacks that completely dominate hapless enemies. Considering the devout fan following Disgaea and its ilk have here, we'd be surprised if this one didn't make the trip overseas.
