PROMETHEUS David The Android's Favourite Science Fiction
MY SCI-FI Prometheus's mechanical troublemaker on his genre faves
Over many years SFX has been asking stars from the worlds of TV, movies and celebrity about their favourite science fiction and fantasy for our My Sci-Fi column. Taking in names from Jodie Marsh to Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Greaves to Matt Lucas, all of our subjects have so far been flesh and blood – until now.
Marking a first for My Sci-Fi, we asked David, the android crew member from Prometheus , to tell us his fave examples of the genre. Will he put his own movie on the list?
Favourite SF/fantasy movies
I very much admired Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey . I find it very interesting how man imagined the relationship between human intelligence and artificial intelligence might develop. It strikes me that man has always held rather a negative view on this.
Favourite SF/fantasy TV shows
Unfortunately I have no available time to watch television shows.
Favourite SF/fantasy books
Have you read Chariots Of The Gods ? It is not science fiction but it contains some rather fascinating ideas. I also found the works of Isaac Asimov diverting, though I do wonder if his view of artificial life isn’t perhaps a little paranoid.
SF/fantasy guilty pleasures
What reason would I have to feel guilty about anything I choose to experience? Feeling shame in harmless enjoyment makes no sense to me. If I choose to read or watch something it is in order to increase my knowledge, and I see no guilt in that.
Prometheus is released on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD on Monday 8 October by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
