Prime Day Lego deals 2024: What to expect, and when they're happening

We finally have a date for this year's Prime Day Lego deals, and it's not all that far away. More specifically, the sales event will be kicking off in mid-July for its 10th year.

Yes, Amazon's annual event is better known for discounts on Alex and Kindle devices. But the bricks from Billund enjoy pretty great reductions too. Actually, we'd argue that Prime Day Lego deals offer one of your best opportunities to save across the year.

Want an example? No problem. Last year, more than a few must-have sets hit record low prices - just like the very popular X-Wing kit. This playset dipped to a single cent off its lowest ever price. In addition, the Hulkbuster from Avengers enjoyed an all-time best price in honor of Prime Day Lego deals. Basically? These offers can be good enough to rival the most appealing Prime Day gaming deals.

In other words, we should expect enviable Prime Day Lego deals for 2024 if last year's sale is anything to go by. And with lots of highly-anticipated kits now gracing shelves (like Animal Crossing or the smaller, cheaper Millennium Falcon), there's even more incentive to keep an eye out. Not that you'll need to do the heavy lifting yourself, of course. Our bargain-hunters have been covering the event for well over five years now, so we've built up more than a few hints and tips that should help you score a discount. You can find all of this advice below, as well as info on what happened last year. We've got details on when we think the Prime Day Lego deals will begin, too.

Prime Day Lego deals: What to expect

Even though the best offers tend to be reserved for Amazon technology or Prime Day laptop deals, that isn't to say savings on Lego aren't available. In fact, you can get a huge amount of money off sets if you know where to look - it's not uncommon to see lowest-ever prices during the sale.

Based on Primes of years past, anything older than a few months is game to receive a price cut. Mid-range and cheap sets are probably going to get the lion's share of savings because they usually do... but that isn't to say big ticket items won't get any love. While very popular sets like Rivendell or the Ultimate Collector Series tend to be held back for flash sales in November, we have seen a couple of premium kits drop substantially as part of the annual Prime Day Lego deals. For example, the Rise of Skywalker Millennium Falcon tumbled to an impressive $127.99, which at the time was a record low.

Speaking of kits like the Falcon, we expect the most tempting offers to be on major franchises such as Star Wars. Even though all things Lego get their prices slashed during the event, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, Super Mario, Minecraft, and the rest take the lion's share in our experience. Mosey on over to Amazon's sales page this July and you'll probably find them dominating the list.

The Animal Crossing series is likely to be slashed in 2024

In all honesty, we'd expect Lego Star Wars sets to steal most of that spotlight. These always seem to get the majority of reductions and are amongst the most popular sets overall, so it stands to reason that they'll be highlighted again this time around. More specifically, for-adults dioramas like the Emperor's Throne Room or mid-range kits such as the X-Wing are sure to drop in price because they always do. We've yet to see a year where Boba Fett's ship or the helmets line haven't been discounted, for instance.

This is what gives us hope that the newly-launched Starship collection (featuring everything from the Millennium Falcon to the Tantive IV) will be included in 2024's discounts. They'll have been out for a couple of months by the time Prime Day rolls around and cost less than $100 / £100 on average, so they fit the mold established by previous sales. Sure, the reductions may not seem huge. But chances are, they'll be the biggest cuts we'll have seen to date on these new models.

In much the same way, we expect many of the recent Harry Potter kits (like Hagrid's Hut) to dip during 2024's Prime Day Lego deals as well. They'll have a few months under their belt and haven't been discounted in any big way before, so will probably enjoy a reduction if previous sales are an indication. Similarly, we could see a lowest-ever price for the Hogwarts Castle and Grounds kit. We've had some savings on the reasonably-sized display piece before, but nothing outrageous. This sale will be the first real opportunity for that, and we'd be surprised if Amazon didn't take it.

That means the Animal Crossing series is likely to be slashed in 2024 too. These kits haven't had any significant reduction yet and launched early this year, so are due a discount by all accounts.

Here are some specific discounts I'm expecting to see.

Image

Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon

MRSP:
$84.99 / £79.99
Expected price: $74.99 / £69.99

If there's one set people are always looking out for, it's the Millennium Falcon... and this new version hasn't had a big discount yet. That makes me think it's due one, and what better time than this year's Prime Day Lego deals? It hasn't dipped below MSRP before now, so this should be the first major drop. In these instances, we can usually expect a reduction of $10 / £10 or so.

Buy it if:
✅ You want a smaller, cheaper Falcon
✅ You don't want something massive

Don't buy it if:
❌ You have or want the bigger versions
❌ You want a playset

Lego Animal Crossing Isabelle's House Visit

MRSP:
$39.99 / £34.99
Expected price: $30.99 / £27.99

This adorable Animal Crossing set hasn't really seen a discount in the US, which makes me think it's due one for this year's Prime Day Lego deals. The UK has seen the kit drop to £27.99, so hopefully it'll return to that for the event.

Buy it if:
✅ You'd want a cute display piece
✅ You want a playset for your kids

Don't buy it if:
❌ You want a more complex for-adults set
❌ You're holding out for a Villager set

Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant

MRSP:
$59.99 / £57.99
Expected price: $50.99 / £43

Seeing as this delightful kit hasn't ever gone much below $56.99 in the US, I'd anticipate a bigger drop for the upcoming Prime Day Lego deals. So far as the UK's concerned, I'd anticipate a drop to or past the current record low of £43.49.

Buy it if:
✅ You'd like a fun desk buddy for work or home
✅ You love Super Mario

Don't buy it if:
❌ You'd prefer to save your money for Bowser
❌ You're expecting a playset

Lego Avengers Tower

MRSP:
$499.99 / £429.99
Expected price: $409.99 / £389.99

I'll put a disclaimer at the front of this one, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Avengers Tower drop by quite a lot in the annual Prime Day Lego deals. It hasn't really seen a bargain price before now, and judging by the Hulkbuster reduction last year, we could see up to £100 off or more.

Buy it if:
✅ You're looking for a showstopper
✅ You adore the Avengers

Don't buy it if:
❌ You don't have much display space
❌ You'd rather go for the Sanctum Sanctorum or Daily Bugle

Lego Talking Sorting Hat

MRSP:
$99.99 / £89.99
Expected price: $90.99 / £70.99

The previous low for this clever kit in the US isn't much below MSRP, so you can probably guarantee a reduction of some kind on it for Prime Day (I'd estimate $10 or so). Across the pond, I'd anticipate the same or better than the record low of £71.99.

Buy it if:
✅ You'd want a conversation-starter (literally)
✅ You want a display piece

Don't buy it if:
❌ You'd prefer Hogwarts itself
❌ You want it to be wearable

Prime Day Lego deals: FAQ

Amazon Prime Day logo

When will Prime Day Lego deals 2024 begin?

We now have a confirmed date for this year's Prime Day Lego deals, and Amazon has announced that the event will take place from July 16 to 17. However, early sales apparently start at the end of June (June 25, to be more precise).

Do I need a Prime membership for the Prime Day Lego deals?

Sorry folks, you do indeed need Prime to take advantage of the best Prime Day Lego deals. The sale is geared toward members of Amazon's subscription service.

However, you aren't completely sunk without a membership. There are plenty of offers for non-subscribers, and you can always rely on the competition to bring their own sales too. Basically? Keep your eyes open for Best Buy, Walmart, and Target equivalents.

Amazon Prime | 30-day free trial

Amazon Prime | 30-day free trial
Many of the best offers are limited to Prime members, so you'll need to sign up if you want to take advantage of them. Fortunately, there's a free trial to get you in the door without having to pay a penny... and it should cover you for the duration. Just remember to cancel before the rolling monthly $12.99 / £7.99 fee kicks in if you don't plan on sticking around.

Should you wait for Black Friday?

Should you take advantage of this year's Prime Day Lego deals, or should you wait until the bigger sales event in November? Honestly, the answer depends on the set itself. Some (like the Millennium Falcon, or those advent calendars) tend to get their biggest reductions during Black Friday. But others don't follow the same rule. Your best bet is to check in with price matching sites such as CamelCamelCamel and take a quick look at the item's history. If it's not had a real discount for ages and has tumbled massively for the Prime Day Lego deals, you should grab it. If it often reaches the same price, has had the same 'reduction' for months, or traditionally gets a saving for November and December, we'd say to hold fire.
