Preacher finally finds a director in DJ Caruso
“I’m pretty f**king pumped!”
I Am Number Four and Disturbia director DJ Caruso has confirmed that he’s just closed a deal to direct a movie adaptation of Garth Ennis’ comic series Preacher .
The adap has long been stranded in development hell, with various talents approaching and then backing begrudgingly away from the epic, Gods-demons-and-angels-stuffed storyline.
Now Caruso has confirmed his deal by Tweeting: “My deal just closed on Preacher . Going back to the dark side and pretty fucking pumped!”
Small wonder that he’s excited. A Preacher movie is a tantalising prospect, its foul-mouthed hero Jesse Custer a young preacher who has the power to speak in God’s voice.
Then there’s his ball-busting ex-girlfriend Tulip and Irish vampire Cassidy (as well as the brilliantly-named Arseface), who all embark on a blood-soaked road trip as Jesse attempts to track down God and make him pay for abandoning the world.
Previously Sam Mendes was attached to direct from a script by John August. With Mendes now helming the 23rd Bond movie, it’s not known if Caruso will still use August’s script.
