Pre-E3 06: Square Enix Nintendo Blow-out
Multi: Boasting "a commitment to next-gen consoles," Square Enix announces a landslide of games for Nintendo
Square Enix announced today that they're planning to help give the Nintendo Wii a little boost for its launch with the wildly physical Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. Imagine using the Wii controller as the hilt of a genuine sword with every slash perfectly mirrored on the screen in a first-person format. We only got the slightest of glimpses at a mock-up of the game in action, but the promise of a more immersive experience than the Sony EyeToy has all the hairs of our arms all prickled up.
Maintaining the simplicity that has been the overarching theme of games bearing the Dragon Quest name, Swords will still pack in questing, in addition to the jumping around your living room with your arms flailing around. After the critical acclaim and retail success of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Square Enix is banking on the popularity and broad appeal of this series to help make the new Wii system a hit... just try not to hit anything else while you're swinging that controller around.
