Power Rangers TV show to become Netflix exclusive in 2017

Things are looking good for Power Rangers fans. In addition to getting a reboot movie, it's also been reported by Collider that Netflix have acquired the rights to produce a new series of the long-running TV show from 2017 onwards.

The colourful ninjas and their over-the-top villains have been a staple of television since 1993, and the series has since logged more than 800 episodes in 22 seasons. Its owner, Saban Brands previously announced that they had extended a deal with Nickelodeon and Bandai America through to 2016, but when 2017 and season 24 rolls round the show will only be available on Netflix. Furthermore, the show will be titled Power Rangers Shruiken, and we'll be getting 32 episodes.

Love it or hate it, the longevity of Power Rangers is undeniably impressive. The move to Netflix is also a smart one; Saturday morning cartoons are sadly a thing of the past, and with more content moving to online and digital platforms it was only a matter of time before Zordon & co followed suit. In any case, there will be plenty of mighty morphin' heroing on both the small and big screens come 2017.

Directed by Dean Israelite and starring Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler and Ludi Lin, the Power Rangers movie will be released in UK and US cinemas on January 13 2017.
