Potential storyline for X-Men: First Class sequel
Fox registers Days Of Future Past title
X-Men: First Class ’s forthcoming sequel recently received a 2014 release date, and things appear to be moving forward in the scriptwriting process, if the registration of a new title is a reliable indicator...
AICN has discovered that Fox have registered the title Days Of Future Past with the MPAA, which just so happens to be the name of one of the most famous X-Men story arcs from the comic-books.
The comic-book storyline jumps between the present day and a future in which mutants are an outlawed species, following the assassination of Senator Kelly by Magneto and his faction. A time-travelling Kitty Pryde manages to warn the X-Men of this potential dystopia, and the race is on to stop Magneto before it’s too late.
At this stage, nothing has been confirmed by the studio, but it sounds as though this may well be the story Matthew Vaughn chooses to tell in the sequel. That said, it may not be a straight adaptation, with Vaughn more likely to cherry pick the elements best suited to the universe he established with First Class .
In any case, Simon Kinberg (who also worked as a screenwriter on X-Men: The Last Stand ) is in charge of bringing together a workable script, so we’ll just have to wait and see what he comes up with. The sequel will open in the US on 18 July 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed.
