Universal virtually created the monster movie genre singlehandedly in the ’30s. The company certainly created the screen versions of cinemas most memorable monsters. In the ’30s and ’40s Universal was the monster factory, and the creatures it created have endured the decades. Even today when we think of Frankenstein’s monster, Dracula or The Invisible Man, the images that pop first into your mind are images created by Universal, so heavily are they now ingrained in the zeitgeist (which is especially ironic when it comes to the Invisible Man).
And now Universal (UK) is releasing eight chilling classics on Blu-ray for the first time ever, in Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection , released on 1 October 2012.
