Platinum Games using PS3 as lead platform for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
However both versions will have same specs, assures Platinum producer
The lead platform being used by Platinum Games for work on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the PS3, Platinum producer Atsushi Inaba revealed today. While behind-the-scenes footage of the title has shown glimpses of Xbox 360 controllers used in development, these are used for the PCs on which Platinum develops its games – with PS3 as the lead platform.
The company's use of Sony's machine as a benchmark goes back to Vanquish, when Platinum began developing for both platforms in-house. It's worth noting that the studio's last multi-platform title before that was Bayonetta, a top-rated title whose PS3 version was developed externally – and which, in our carefully-considered technical assessment, “sucked hobo Johnson.”
Inaba assured readers, however, that the game will play the same on both platforms: just like Vanquish onward, Platinum's cross-platform engine caps the specs for both versions at the same point. Does this mean the most passionately platform-faithful of players won't notice differences between the two releases? Of course it doesn't; but whether those differences are really there is another question.
