The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has just revealed that the new C button on the Joy Con 2 controller is a built-in chat function – I was right.

This new chat feature looks a lot like Discord, and finally gives you a way to directly chat in-game on the Nintendo Switch 2. You can use it in docked or handheld mode and the Switch 2 even comes with a built-in mic so there's no need for any accessories to use this feature.

If you just want to chat, your game screen will get slightly smaller and you'll see some blank windows below showing all the friends you'r ecurrently talking to. You can adjust the size of these screens too.

The Switch 2 features noise cancelling technology so that your voice can be detected even if you're sat on the couch in a noisy room. You can also use the C button to easly mute yourself if you need to step away or talk about something privately.

You can also turn on game screen sharing via the C button, which turns all those little windows into live views of whatever your mates are playing. Screen peeking has just been reinvented. This feature works even if you and your pals are playing different games. You can even attach a camera to the Switch 2 so that you and your friends can see each other while you play. Like I said, it's a built-in Discord.

This Switch 2 Direct also reveals a whole host of upcoming Switch 2 games that you should check out.
