PlanetSide 2: Timelapse clip shows the birth of the game's new Sky Lance
Anti-air cannon goes from blank canvas to in-game threat
Sony's still putting together PlanetSide 2, the free-play sequel to its popular 2003 MMOFPS. While playable code isn't far off, the company's released a video to keep you interested, showing the artistic process behind one of the game's more impressive power-ups. How do you show off a game that's all about gunplay on a planetary scale? Obviously by building players a really, really big gun.
New to the sequel, the Sky Lance is designed for taking out enemy drops in a single shot – but requires massive amounts of power, necessitating an energy consumption that'll leave entire facilities at risk during the weapon's lengthy charge-time. This may all seem a bit needlessly technical, but you'll be grateful for this sort of info when the game's beta launches – which, by the way, you can register for right now.
