Phil Lord and Chris Miller will write The LEGO Movie 2
Duo had been expected to stick to production duties
While Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed The LEGO Movie to great success, both critically and financially, it had been thought that the duo would take something of a back seat on the forthcoming sequel, restricting their involvement to production duties.
However, according to Deadline , the pair will be more heavily involved than first anticipated, having signed an agreement to pen the script for The LEGO Movie 2 .
That said, they will still be passing on the directorial reins, although with co-helmer Chris McKay now confirmed for the LEGO Batman spin-off, it remains to be seen whether he will still be directing The LEGO Movie 2 as had first been planned.
Whoever does end up filling the director’s chair will have plenty to live up to, with the first film having brought in a whopping $470 million worldwide, as well as scoring a raft of positive reviews.
The LEGO Movie 2 is expected to open in the UK at some point in 2018. An official release date has yet to be confirmed.
