Peter Jackson Says He'd Love To Direct Doctor Who

Prepare for fangasm. The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson has told New Zealand newspaper Waikato Times (via stuff.co.nz ) that he would love to direct an episode of Doctor Who .

This follows an interview Matt Smith gave to the newspaper in which he said that he would like to start a campaign for an episode of Doctor Who to be filmed in New Zealand with Sir Peter Jackson directing.

“I think it would be an absolutely wonderful place to film Doctor Who ,” Smith told the newspaper. “There's clearly a great film industry out there. It's something I would be very interested in, it's just whether we can persuade the producers to fly us all over.”

So the newspaper got in touch with Jackson who responded, '“I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, and I think Matt's fantastic. Just name a time and place, and I'll be there!'”

Jackson is well known as a Doctor Who fan, and even cast seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy as Radagast The Brown in The Hobbit. Jackson even owns one of McCoy's costumes from the show.

As much as we’d love it to happen, would the BBC be able to afford Jackson? Or would his Who love mean he’d override his agent and take a massive wage cut just for the hell of it? You never know… it could happen.
