Peter Capaldi to continue as Doctor Who "for as long as it's right"
When news broke that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat would be departing the series after its tenth season, the first thing on everyone's mind was Peter Capaldi. Would he stay on as the doctor?
Rumors at the time indicated that the current Time Lord would likely end his stint alongside Moffat, giving the next showrunner Chris Chibnall a chance to hand-pick a new candidate for the Tardis. Whether that will happen is still unknown. "I love being Doctor Who, Capaldi told BBC Radio Two when asked how long he sees himself playing the part, "so I will be around as long as it's right to be around."
We can take this one of two ways. It could mean that Capaldi sees a long road ahead of him as the twelfth Doctor, or that it's right for him to wrap up his tenure once the tenth season is complete. Bearing in mind his comments to Radio Times earlier this week, it sounds like he's still deliberating. “I’ve been asked to stay on,” he said, “but it’s such a long time before I have to make that decision... Steven’s been absolutely wonderful, so I love working with him. Chris is fantastic, and I think he’s a hugely talented guy. I don’t know where the show’s gonna go then. I don’t know. I have to make up my mind, and I haven’t yet.”
There it is Who fans, straight from the source. However things shake out, Capaldi is sticking around for a while. There's the 2016 Christmas special of Doctor Who to look forward to, along with the tenth season set to air in 2017.
