When his estranged father dies, luckless salesman Sam (Chris Pine) must deliver a sizeable inheritance to the son of half-sister Frankie (Elizabeth Banks), whom he has never met.
Sam decides to keep their relationship secret, portraying himself as a stranger until he susses things out.
From there, the movie drags us, slowly, towards that inevitable ‘epiphany’ about the fragile nature of life, love, and family that blossoms at the tail end of every generic Hollywood weeper.
Fans of Pine’s eyebrows will enjoy all the bushy furrowing, but otherwise, there are more important things to cry about.
