Paul Greengrass set to direct Jimi Hendrix biopic
Paul Greengrass may have found his next project, with Deadline reporting that the British director is in negotiations to helm a new Jimi Hendrix biopic for Legendary.
Andre Benjamin recently starred in unauthorised biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side, but the film was hamstrung by a lack of authentic Hendrix tunes. However, the report reveals that Legendary has managed to tie down an agreement with the Hendrix estate, notoriously resistant to movie adaptations in the past, allowing the new film the rights to use Hendrix’s music throughout.
Greengrass was attached to the project when Legendary made its first unsuccessful approach to the Hendrix estate, with Anthony Mackie reportedly the name being bandied about back then as a potential star. Whether he is still in the frame remains to be seen, but we should see movement on this once Greengrass is officially confirmed. No official release date has been confirmed for the film as yet, with Greengrass currently working on the next instalment of the Bourne franchise.
