During his press duties for android drama Ex-Machina, Oscar Isaac spoke out to Yahoo UK about the costume for his titular X-Men: Apocalypse character.
“It’ll be a mix [of practical and digital],” he said. “I haven’t had a script so I haven’t had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it’ll be a mixture of physical, aided with some robotic technology.”
The director of the mutant sequel, Bryan Singer, is known for his unique blend of both techniques employed across the X-Men cinematic franchise. An opposing style to their biggest competitor, Marvel - who rendered flagship villain Thanos solely using digital wizardry - Fox’s superhero adaptations utilise both.
It will be exciting to see how one of Apocalypse’s defining characteristics - the ability to shift form and turn into energy - will appear on the big screen.
Isaac then went on to speak of the lengthy prosthetics process that awaits him:
“After we finish here I’m heading to do a head cast [for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’], which they do often. You spend 3-4 hours with them putting plaster all over your head and they get a sense of what your face is like and what shape your head is, so they can start figuring out the costume and the make up and all that stuff, which is pretty fun.”
The ancient evil is expected to face off against the '80s era X-Men, older and wiser from their appearances in First Class and Days of Future Past.
Production on X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to commence shortly in Canada. It hits the big screen 19th May 2016 in the UK and 27th May 2016 in the US.
