Olivia Munn says kill-happy Psylocke is a "really cool badass"
Oscar Isaac's ancient mutant might have his name in the title, but in my eyes? Psylocke is the star of X-Men: Apocalypse. Did you see that moment in the trailers? You know, the one where she spirals through the air and slices a car in half? That's what sold me on her kick-ass cred, and it's those deadly skills that convinced Olivia Munn to take on the role.
"I’ve loved Psylocke for so long," Munn tells CNET. "She’s a really, really strong badass female character in this comic book world where a lot of times the women don’t get to be strong and badass. You see a lot of superheroes [who] don’t always want to kill, and they’ll avoid it if they can. She’s never had a problem killing, and I like that she was the bad guy that had no problem being the bad guy."
Certainly puts that whole 'is Superman an emissary of satan for killing Zod' argument in a new light, eh? Mind you, Psylocke's not exactly one of the good guys (that's another long story) but still, it's refreshing to hear of a super-powered being who doesn't quibble over things.
"She’s telekinetic and telepathic so she can read your mind," Munn adds, "She can create anything with her mind. To win any fights, she can just create a mountain and have it fall down on you, but she chooses to create a sword so she can kill up close and personal. I always thought that was really cool and badass."
Yes, it's definitely cool and badass, but I'm kinda digging that whole mountain idea. What about you?
Directed by Bryan Singer and starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, and Nicholas Hoult, X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in UK cinemas on May 18, 2016 before making its way to US theatres on May 27, 2016.
