In news that should surprise nobody at all, it has emerged that Oliver Stone is set to direct a film about NSA leaker, Edward Snowden.
The man responsible for blowing the whistle on the National Security Agency's global surveillance practices, Snowden's story is documented in Luke Harding's book, The Snowden Files , which will serve as inspiration for the film.
The film will represent Stone's latest foray into the murkier side of American history, with the rabble-rousing director seeming an obvious choice to tackle what remains a distinctly sensitive subject in the US.
"To me, Snowden is a hero," said Stone last year. "He revealed secrets that we should all know, that the United States has repeatedly violated the fourth amendment."
Stone is reportedly looking to begin production by the end of the year, mindful of the fact that a rival Snowden project is in the works, based on another account of the NSA leaks, No Place To Hide . A release date has yet to be confirmed.
