Obsidian pitching new Star Wars RPG
Set during fall of Republic between Episodes III and IV
Obsidian wants to make another Star Wars RPG. The developer behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II told Rock, Paper, Shotgun it piqued LucasArts' interest with the idea before the publisher and its parent company were bought up by Disney.
“We pitched a between-Episode III and Episode IV game [to LucasArts]," Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart said. "Because we think that timeframe is super interesting. It’s the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few. So it was an interesting time to set a game, and you know, Chris Avellone came up with a really cool story.”
Urquhart said his company hasn't pitched Disney yet, but he isn't too worried about its increased focus on mobile and social games for the Star Wars franchise. As the new console generation shakes out and things settle down, the game concept will hopefully speak for itself.
"It changes things a lot, but you know, we’re gonna push on it," Urquhart said. "I would say it’s within the top three pitches we’ve ever come up with."
If Disney greenlights the game, it would be at least the third large-scale RPG project for Obsidian, on top of Project Eternity and South Park: The Stick of Truth--the publishing rights to which were sold to Ubisoft in January.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
