Obsidian Entertainment, developer of Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2, has been revealed as the developer of Sega's recently announced RPG based on the Alien film franchise. The game is set to burst onto PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, perhaps in 2009.
Obsidian was Sega's "first choice" of developer, which it'll be pleased to hear, with Sega America president Simon Jeffery stating that the KOTOR II dev was "the only developer for us that could effectively combine the Alien mythology with compelling RPG gameplay to create the ultimate Alien experience."
But Obsidian's involvement with the project was already expected - yesterday the official tie-in website for the games went live, apparently with the developer's name in among the corporate copyright text at the foot of the page. But that's not all. Brothers in Arms developer Gearbox's name also appeared.
With Sega's only other Alien-inspired title being an FPS, and the Obsidian rumors now confirmed as fact, we can't imagine it'll be too long until Sega reveals that Gearbox are hard at work on a squad-based shooter set in the Alien universe. Watch this webspace for the inevitable update.
