Oblivion PS3 NOT out now in Game
Elder Scrolls IV mysteriously absent from retailer's shelves
Friday 27 April 2007
A lunchtime perusal of the shelves in our local Game store revealed that one of today's biggest releases, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on PS3, was mysteriously missing from display. Spotting our perplexed faces a helpful keeper of the till informed us that none of Game's high street shops had copies of Oblivion to sell, although we would be able to purchase it from their online store (although we checked and its currently listed as 'out of stock').
The game seemed readily available for over the counter purchase at other gaming outlets in the vicinity, so we gave Oblivion's PS3 publisher, Ubisoft, a call to find out why Game had been seemingly allocated with zero stock supply. A Ubisoft representative told us:
"As demand for Oblivion has been so high there may be some supply problems with Game and Gameplay, which is why it's temporarily unavailable. However, it still is available elsewhere. Rest assured, Oblivion on PS3 is definitely out today in online and high street retailers."
Despite this official line, something smells whiffier than a sun-baked slaughterfish - it's certainly curious that Game and Gameplay are the only retailers hit by supply problems... Regardless, though, if you're looking to pick up Oblivion for PS3, it is out there (just not in Game or Gameplay) and -as our review testifies- it's an absolute masterpiece.
