'No plans' for Need for Speed paid DLC, creative director says - none, zilch, nada

The new Need for Speed couldn't charge you for post-launch DLC even if developer Ghost Games wanted it to, creative director Craig Sullivan recently told Vice. The game, which launches later this week, will give its post-launch content to players for free because, according to Sullivan, "that's what players deserve."

"I've seen the plans for what's going to happen over the next few weeks and months – there's nothing in there, by which I mean, we don't even have the ability to charge you in the game. There's no store to speak of," Sullivan said. "Everything we're doing is focusing on listening to what the fans are asking for. They're certainly not saying to us, 'Can you build a load of stuff and charge us for it?'"

Sullivan said he understands if you're skeptical - if you think that plans will change down the line. But he stood firm against the idea of plans changing. "It's not going to," he said "The plan is that there are no transactions in this game."

The co-founder of Witcher 3 development studio CD Projekt RED said in August that he hoped his studio's policy of releasing free DLC would become an "industry standard." With free costumes heading to Assassin's Creed Syndicate (even if the game still has plenty of other paid DLC) and Need for Speed's unequivocal denial of plans for paid content, it certainly seems like the beginning of a trend.
