No Iranian biopic for Oliver Stone
He’s been turned down by the President…
Given that Oliver Stone has a reputation for pumping out decent biopics, you might be surprised to learn that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has turned down the chance for the filmmaker to shoot the story of his life. But then, when you hear the response… You’re probably not so shocked.
"I sent a negative answer by Ahmadinejad to Oliver Stone," the president’s media adviser Mehdi Kalhor said in a statement. “It is right that this person is considered part of the opposition in the US, but opposition in the US is a part of the Great Satan."
Charming. But Stone took the response easily enough. “I have been called a lot of things, but never a Great Satan," the director replied in a statement. "I wish the Iranian people well, and only hope their experience with an inept, rigid ideologue president goes better than ours."
Trivia fans should note that then supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini to describe the US coined the “Great Satan” buzzword in the late ‘70s. We’re sure the real reason is that the current Prez saw Alexander but didn’t want to be rude about it…
